Most people think of Gladys Knight, Demi Lovato, and Mickey Guyton when they think of national anthem singers. However, Syracuse University demonstrated that star power is not limited by age. Drake Grillo, three years old, made Carrier Dome history on December 17, 2018, when he took the microphone and began singing the National Anthem to a crowd of 6000 people.
Most adults would have shuddered at the prospect of singing in front of such a large crowd, but Drake was unfazed. Regardless of his age, he was eager to share his voice with the audience. Drake Grillo did not spare his mother a glance as she kneeled beside him for support. He was too preoccupied with his emotional rendition of his patriotic song.
As anyone who has sung the National Anthem knows, remembering all of the lyrics under duress is no easy task. Even the most accomplished performers have struggled to keep all of the words together.
But the bright three-year-old had no trouble remembering all of the lyrics. Drake belted out each verse with his endearing lisp, and the audience couldn’t get enough. The entire audience smiled as the young child reached the final verse of the National Anthem. Whether you are patriotic or not, this adorable little one will make you smile.
